NFL Hopes for Canadian QB
Leading up to NFL drafts every year, it's rare to hear about players from a Canadian University. However, this year was different, as Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks star quarterback Taylor Elgersma was making some noise, and was apart of the conversation on entering the NFL.
Since becoming the starting QB for the Golden Hawks back in 2022, Elgersma has been making a name for himself, and has only been improving since, with his breakout season being this past year.
In 13 games in the 2024 season, Elgersma threw for a total of 4,252 yards, 35 touchdowns, and only 11 interceptions. He then lead the Golden Hawks to the Yates Cup where they beat the Western Mustangs 51-31, with Elgersma being named as the Championship game MVP. He was then named as a First-team All-Canadian and awarded with the Hec Crighton Trophy.
Following his groundbreaking season, Elgersma was invited to the 2025 Senior Bowl, becoming the first Canadian University player to play in the bowl.
Though he went undrafted last month in the 2025 NFL draft, Elgersma was able to keep the NFL dream alive after receiving invites to participate at both the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills rookie-mini camps.
Following his time with the Packers, and before heading to Buffalo, it was announced by TSN's Dave Naylor that the Packers are gearing up to sign Elgersma to the team where he will likely compete for the 3rd-string QB spot:
As a former student at Wilfird Laurier University myself, I am thrilled to see Elgersma chasing the NFL dream and will be cheering him on for the rest of his career!
